Weekends continue to be really good. I think as long as there is no disaster, weekends are generally quite awesome these days. This is because both OH and I are pretty nuts about this Munchkin we've produced and we've made our peace with the fact that she is not going to be a Sleeper. This is when your infant performs the wonderous act of sleeping for 6 hours straight or more.
Friday continues to be mama day. Most of these days I contribute my schedule to spend as much time as possible holding the munchkin. If I am complaining about back problems in a few years, I will have no one to blame but myself. We managed to get out of the house early to experience my first ever PLAY DATE. Actually it's an organized play date where you pay a small fee and can then use the nice toys and facilities, meet other expat parents, and everyone even contributes fruit for a snack. Obviously our five month old child is a little young for all this and in fact found the best use for the room was to fall asleep in the wrap, but it was fun to preview the future. I went with our friend M and her two boys, and we all got soaked on the way home. In the afternoon it continued to pour rain so we hung out at home until OH was able to get home to relieve me. That evening I went to surprise a good friend S at her house out in Ijburg with a small gathering of just a few of us girl friends. We had a lovely time but I admit I wish I could be two places at once as I really enjoy my weekends with the hubs, even if we don't get up to much in the evenings.
Saturday we did shopping, more watching of rain falling, and lots of prepping for the first inaugural Husband Planned Date Night! Not that he has to plan them all mind, but it was the first he'd organized that was officially recognized. We had a babysitter and a reservation planned. We realized the night before that the babysitter, who was new, would not meet our munchkin at all if she came at the scheduled time so we wrote to ask if she would be available to stop by earlier in the day to at least see the child in a waking state before being committed to caring for her for several hours. We use a service which is actually a one woman show. She said she was not able to get a hold of the babysitter but would keep trying. This was early on Saturday. I assumed it was not going to happen and pretty much forgot about it until 7:00 that evening when OH and I were sitting in our fancy gear, baby stuff out and at the ready for a new person, and no babysitter in sight. I checked my email and saw the service had gotten back to us later that afternoon if the babysitter could come by at 5pm to meet the Munchkin. Oh crap, and she had sent a text message. We had the number of the babysitter and turns out she'd been informed by the service that we wouldn't need her that night. After a WTF moment we thanked her and apologized for any inconvenience the "cancellation" had caused. I guess the service interpreted our silence as a cancellation. It's a long story but in the end it was a simple miscommunication, and we know this service is very good but on busy nights you can feel the strain of it effectively being one person trying to coordinate everything. We obviously canceled the restaurant, got burritos and enjoyed being together. Luckily it was not some special occasion we might have missed.
Sunday I woke with a bizarre need for American pancakes. The Munchkin obliged by napping during the cooking of said pancakes, good old classic Joy of Cooking with wheat flour and bananas thrown in. They were delicious and excellent fortification for a session of yoga with Friend Learning to Instruct Yoga (she is very good!). I also had time to put to pots of delicious things (soup and beans) which filled the house with nice smells all day. A quick stroll out to meet with friends for coffee in the afternoon rounded out the weekend.

Okay, so your date night turned into a dress rehersal for the next date night. It's nice you were so philosophical.
Boo babysitting service! Yay pancakes and bananas! Sounds delicious. Maybe next weekend for date night??
